About Us
The Jackson family have been involved with horses most of their lives. Mark Jackson was a bullfighter for over 10 years. He worked for stock contractors such as Sammy Catalena (circle 5 Rodeo company) out of Brian, Texas, as well as Lester Meier Rodeo Company out of Fredericksburg, Texas.
Darla Jackson has been running barrels since she was 9 years of age. Darla is a past champion in AJRA (American Junior Rodeo Association), THSRA (Texas High School Rodeo Association) and was named the Texas Timed Horseman in 4-H. She has also received numerous other awards. Darla then turned her interest to trick riding. She performed at numerous rodeos over the state of Texas. After having their daughter, Decotah, Darla went back to running barrles. She has since trained barrel horses that have been competitive in CTBRA (Central Texas Barrel Racing Assoc), NBHA (National Barrel Horse Association), APHA (American Paint Horse Association) and competed in the American Paint World Show in Fort Worth Texas and in various Open Shows and Rodeos.
Decotah, at the young age of 10, is an accomplished horseperson herself. She has won at barrel racing and pole bending in CTBRA as well as Playdays. She has followed in her mother's footsteps by Trick Riding at the prestigious "Camplonghorn" in Burnet, Texas as well as the Western Days Rodeo in Elgin, TX.
In 2003, the Jacksons decided to expand on their love for horses and opened a horse drawn carriage business.....and "Decotah's Dream Team Carriage Company" was born. Their company provides horse drawn carriages for all occasions. Their company is taking them all over the beautiful state of Texas.
Darla is a graduate of Texas State University with a degree in education. She was a stay at home Mom until it was time for Decotah to start kindergarten. Darla then took a job in Taylor, Texas teaching 2nd grade at St. Paul Luther school. She taught for 2 years and decided to home school Decotah. Darla now teaches children out of her home in a private school setting called "Straight from the Heart Country School". This will be Darla's 5th year having the school at her home. Having this school allows Darla to give riding lessons after school and at Spring Break. Darla has been giving riding lessons on an off since she was a senior in high school. Her love for horses and children has been a strong influence in Darla's life.
Mark and Darla are no strangers to "behind the scenes" of rodeo as well. They have successfully put on Barrel Races, Playdays and are in the process of producing Convention Rodeos for Renuions, Corporate Parties and Conventions.
